„After winning the Champions League, I said Vladimir Romanovich (coach Alekno) that I want to play in other club, to be a substitute for León and Anderson is not for me. I think that by playing for Zenit, I did a great job in terms of sporting achievements and in financial terms. Alekno reacted with understanding in regard to my move, so the separation was calm. I still love my ex-club and I love everyone there. I recently played Zenit in the Regular Season and entire staff welcomed me warmly, there was no hard feelings or anything like that. You know, sometimes changing a club goes painfully – for both sides – but not in my case,“ Spirik said.
„In terms of humor, I was always on top, in whatever club I played. Being a soul of a team is in my blood. With the emotional discharge, humor is always helpful. Can you imagine what it would be like if everyone would walk around with sour faces? It would not be a sport, but some hard labor work. Of course, you need to know both place and time for jokes,“ a two-time each CEV Champions League, Russian Championship and Russian Cup winner with Zenit explained his unorthodox approach to volleyball.
