VINTAGE VOLLEYBALL: Historical World Championship 1970 for Germany and Bulgaria (VIDEO)

by WoV

After 48 years Bulgaria will host the FIVB World Championship and everyone hope that they will repeat the success from 1970 and play in the final of the competition.

Bulgaria last hosted the World Championships in 1970 and that year they played in the final against East Germany. After five sets the opponents won 3-2 (15-11, 13-15, 15-7, 4-15, 15-13) their first and only gold medal in the World Champ.

This Championship was historical for both teams because that was the only time that Germany and Bulgaria played in the final.

From that year both National teams played twice the matches for the third place. Bulgaria won both their matches (1986 and 2006) while Germany took the medal 2014.
