CS Rapid București’s drought in the Romanian Women’s Volleyball Championship might be over next season.
Rapid, the club founded almost 100 years ago, undoubtedly aims for the title in the next Romanian Championship. A highly reinforced side from the country’s capital has a big budget for 2022-23, which was clear in signatures they completed this summer. Bringing Italian coach Carlo Parisi, middle blockers from Canada and Bulgaria – Jennifer Cross and Nasya Dimitrova, and Korean setter Lee Da-Yeong has a goal to break the fast of 16 years without winning the Romanian Championship of already a winner of 19 national titles (the second most successful club of the competition).
The list of renowned foreign players that strengthened Rapid has just been increased with Brazilian Suelle Oliveira and Cuban Ailama Cesé.
Now a veteran Suelle (35 years old) is a former Brazil National Team member (2005-2015). The outside hitter, awarded best in her role in the 2014 FIVB Club World Championship, came to Rapid from Sesi Vôlei Bauru, having one Brazilian Superliga title, two South American Club Championship titles, and two Brazilian Cups on her account. As for Cesé, she came to Rapid from Russia’s Uralochka-NTMK (silver medal in the league last season). The 21-year-old outside hitter had a fruitful youth career, being awarded (among other awards) Best Outside Spiker of the 2017 Pan-American Cup U18 and 2017 Pan-American Cup U20, and MVP of the 2019 Pan-American Cup U20.
