The Bulgaria National Team was ingloriously eliminated from the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship.
Bulgaria, the team that was considered to have the quality to interfere in the battle for the highest positions in the World Championship 2022, is out of the tournament after the group stage – courtesy of Mexico.
The players coached by Nikolay Jeliazkov lost to Mexico 2-3 in their last match of Pool C in Katowice, Poland. Thus, the ’Lions’ suffered their third defeat in as many games and recorded their lowest ranking in a planetary forum. Bulgaria took only two sets in the competition, and today, in the end, they wasted 4 match points. Even though this match was only a matter of prestige for them, the NORCECA side spoiled Bulgaria’s plans for an obligatory 3-0 win and a possible bigger point difference in order to keep even minimal chances to be among the four best third-placed teams across all pools. Even then, Bulgaria would be dependent on the development of results and rankings in the other groups that end tomorrow evening.
Diego González put down 33 points for Mexico, including 4 aces. His teammate Josué López noted the same number of points from service. Axel Téllez made 5 blocks. Tsvetan Sokolov sscored 24 points for Bulgaria.
Three games, three victories – the France National Team completed its group campaign by dominating Cameroon in three sets, partially 25-19, 25-19, and 25-22. As leaders of Pool D, Andrea Giani’s players will meet their opponents for the Round of 16 on Wednesday evening. The Italian expert was able to rest most of his usual starters while giving playing time to the bench players.
Stéphen Boyer took the opportunity to finish top scorer with 19 points. Yaoussi Kavogo scored 13 for the Africans.
