According to the CEV, the latest editions of the CEV Eurovolley, both for women in Turkey, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland and for men in France, Slovenia, Belgium, and The Netherlands were the most successful in the history of EuroVolley. For the first time, 4 countries of each gender were the organizers of the competition, attracting more than 250,000 persons as spectators.
As WoV has managed to find out, before the CEV Congress, the Managing Board of the CEV had made a request to all the National Federations to prepare and send the questions (if any) to be presented and discussed during the Congress. The NFs had an opportunity to make a debate about the common problems and challenges.
As you can read from the attached letter (photos 1, 2, 3, 4), there are many topics that were mentioned, especially regarding the transparency, management, sponsorships and good governance that NFs would like to be informed more and to be involved. The topics that are a priority for many sports federations (not only volleyball) in Europe lately.
The fact is that the organization in each country was almost completely covered by the Government and the Local Community’s funds and there is an evident lack of additional supporters, such as sponsors. The bidding processes for different things could be more transparent in many cases, considering an invitation for a direct contact with the CEV. For some NFs, there is a limitation to participate and vote at the official meetings. Balanced development of the European National Teams (and clubs) is also questionable, rewarding only the best ones.
The result of the discussions and the decisions during the CEV Congress in Paris last Friday is still unknown. One thing is sure: the next CEV elections are announced for the 19th of June 2020 in Moscow, Russia.
