In a dazzling finale at the Paris 2024 beach volleyball tournament, Sweden’s Ahman and Hellvig, known as the “Flying Swedes,” captured the gold medal by defeating Germany’s Ehlers and Wickler. The top-seeded European champions delivered an exceptional performance, winning the match 2-0 with scores of 21-10 and 21-13.
From the outset, Ahman and Hellvig showcased their dominance with a strong first set, using their signature jump set to confound their opponents. Despite a valiant effort from the Germans in the second set, the Swedes pulled away decisively to secure their historic win, marking Sweden’s first gold in beach volleyball at the Olympics.
In the men’s bronze medal match, Norway’s Mol & Sorum rebounded from their semifinal defeat to claim their second Olympic medal. The Norwegian duo, already gold medalists from Tokyo 2020, triumphed over Qatar’s Cherif Younousse & Ahmed Tijan with a straight-set victory of 2-0 (21-13, 21-16). Mol & Sorum’s superior performance was evident in their serving and blocking, with Mol contributing all four of his team’s aces and both players delivering key blocks.
