Sada Cruzeiro filed a request to the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV) to use the electronic challenge system, which they possess, to assist referees in their home matches in the 2019/20 Superliga Masculina. The request of the multiple national champions was approved by the other participants of the league during a pre-season meeting organized by the CBV. This equipment was purchased by Cruzeiro and has already been frequently used in state and national competitions, and operated by the staff trained by the state volleyball federation of Minas Gerais.
Currently, the CBV is awaiting a grant for a project of buying the equipment needed to systematically deploy the video challenge system at all the country’s main tournaments as from the 2020/21 season or, more likely, from the 2021/22. The planned investment is worth about more than one million euros for which at least 12 complete kits would be purchased. As for the upcoming season, the electronic challenge system is planned to be used in semifinals and finals of both men’s and women’s Superliga.
