The two giants of the Brazilian women’s volleyball will unite forces and compete together in the next season, Web Vôlei learned. Sesc RJ, a project with more than two decades of life and the record number of national titles in the history of the Superliga (12), and C. R. Flamengo, one of the largest sports clubs of the country in general and also with three national volleyball titles are about to merge. Actually, the coronavirus pandemic postponed signing an agreement that has already been closed.

The merger is seen as beneficial for both sides. After canceling the men’s team, Sesc also decreased investment in the women’s team for the 2020/21 season.

Flamengo, on the other hand, a year after returning to the national elite want to start fighting for trophies. In the season that just ended, Flamengo fought to avoid relegation and ultimately remained in the elite. After investing a lot in men’s football and basketball teams in recent years, the management of the sports club from Rio de Janeiro is ready to raise funds for women’s volleyball, too.
