Although only three rounds of the 2017/18 Superliga took place, it is quite clear that Cruzeiro fans can stop regretting the departure of William “El Mago” Arjona from the club this summer. His successor in the Contagem club Nicolás Uriarte kept creating the magic in the play of four-time consecutive defending champions.
The Argentine led Cruzeiro to a 3-1 win over Sesi-SP (the club in which William continued his career) in the classic of the Brazilian Men’s volleyball with 7 points (according to the official statistics from the Superliga), while the Brazilian media say he scored one point more. Uriarte made 2 aces, 2 kill blocks and 3 (or 4) points from attack (100%) and was leveled in points with an opposite Evandro Guerra! For a setter, these are rather amazing figures.
The Cuban Yoandy Leal topped Cruzeiro with 15 points while Douglas Souza highlighted Sesi with 14 points.
This was the Round 10 game played in advance due to Cruzeiro’s participation in the 2017 FIVB Club World Championship in Poland on December 11-17.
