The two most-titled Belgian men’s volleyball clubs, Noliko Maaseik and Knack Roeselare, issued a joint press release, a day before the 2017/18 national cup final in which they faced each other, demanding radical changes in the organization of the professional volleyball in the country.

In the press release signed by the top officials of Maaseik and Roeselare, a day before the 2017/18 national cup final, the Belgian federation (Topvolley Belgium) was asked to make organizational changes that will no longer turn these two clubs into „cash-cows”.

Just like in previous years, both participating teams in the cup final are used as ‘cash-cow’ by Topvolley Belgium to sell tickets at a too high price. All consultations regarding the organization were considered as interference,” Maaseik and Roeselare stated and emphasized, as the two most important clubs from Belgium, they are more than tired of this game of the Belgian Volleyball Association.

Therefore, Maaseik and Roeselare formulated three requirements to ensure the existence and further development of the professional volleyball in Belgium, which must immediately take effect without further delay:

  1. The organization of the top division should be entrusted to the professional league association (Volley League) without interference from the national federation.
  2. We do not want to play a cup final anymore with only 1,500 euros prize money being paid per finalist on more than 300,000 euros of income.
  3. We demand participation and compensation for the clubs that release players for the national team through the Volley League because players are paid by the clubs when they compete for the national team.
