SVK M: Two-time defending champs Nitra narrowly avoid playoff elimination, will play for new title

VKP Bystrina SPU Nitra will have the chance to defend the title in the Slovakian men’s volleyball championship Extraliga 2017/2018.

The second-seed VKP Bystrina SPU Nitra won Game 5 of the Extraliga 2017/2018 semifinals against No.3 VK MIRAD PU Prešov to win the series by a 3-2.

Nitra was 0-1 and 1-2 behind in the series before prevailing by a 3-2 (13-25, 25-19, 25-14, 24-26, 15-10) in front of own crowd in a decisive encounter.

The import from Puerto Rico, Pablo Guzmán, topped two-time defending champions with 25 points. Martin Sopko scored 16 points for Prešov. Ľuboš Macko added 4 kill blocks.

Nitra will face No.1 VK Prievidza in the best-of-seven playoff finals.
