England has the new men’s volleyball national cup winners as Northumbria outplayed titleholders IBB Polonia in straight sets, claiming each one with a two-point difference, in the gold medal match that was held at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering.
Northumbria captain Adam Bradbury, who was the best scorer on his team in the final with 13 points, was named MVP of the tournament. He made 73% reception against IBB Polonia (15 digs, 1 error, 33% perfect), while his teammate Liam Jenkinson recorded 70% attack (7/10). The Pole Dorian Poinc topped the losing side with 13 points.
Both Northumbria and IBB Polonia advanced to the Super 8s best-of-two playoff semifinals (April 21 and April 22). The top-seed Northumbria will face No.5 Malory Eagles London, while the second-seed IBB Polonia will play No.3 Sheffield Hallam.
