In Pool E1, in Macau, the 2016 Rio Olympics winners China, helped by Zhu Ting, struggled to overpower the highlight of the tournament so far, the U.S. National Team. In a close encounter, in which huge battle was held in each set, China triumphed in the tie-break, partially 25-27, 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 15-11. Even the element of a surprise embodied in Madison Kingdon, who scored game-high 23 points, was not enough for the United States to grab the 5th win in 6 matches. In China, Yuan Xinyue noted 21 points but Gao Yi was the X factor in the squad of the Asian side as she made 6 kill blocks and 4 aces.

In the same pool, the awaken Italy reached 4th victory in a row, after suffering two defeats at the very beginning of the tournament. They beat Turkey in straight sets, partially 25-13, 25-20, 25-14, with Cristina Chirichella notching 14 points. Hande Baladın collected 10 on the other side.
