The Brazilian National Team outplayed Russia by a 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-23, 25-12) at the start of this year’s Grand Champions Cup, an international round-robin tournament which is held one year after the Olympic Games ever since 1993. We can also say that Brazil outblocked Russia as they made 18 kill blocks compared to 8 from the rivals! Maybe even outserved Russia, 11-3.
Despite the fact that Russia’s head coach Vladimir Kuzyutkin summoned two main stars, Tatyana Kosheleva and Nataliya Goncharova, back in the national team after a few months (after the Europan Qualification Tournament for the 2018 FIVB World Championship, which was held on May and June), Brazil showed superiority in the Tokyo match, especially in the fourth set.
Tandara Caixeta topped the South American side with 28 points (4 aces), while Ana Carolina da Silva ’Carol’ made 6 kill blocks. Nataliya Goncharova scored 16 points for Russia.
