In a third match of the “best-of-five” series for the German Bundesliga, VfB Friedrichshafen faced a setback, losing to Berlin Recycling Volleys 3-1 (26-24, 19-25, 22-25, 15-25).
After dominating the series with a 2-0 lead, Friedrichshafen now has another chance to claim their first title since 2015 in the upcoming match on April 23rd in the sold-out Spacetech Aarena.
The match started with both teams showing nerves, leading to numerous serving errors. Friedrichshafen initially took advantage with key plays by Michal Superlak, while Berlin responded effectively through Nehemiah Mote and Tobias Krick. Despite a tight first set, Berlin’s persistent defense turned the tide in the following sets.
As the game progressed, Berlin’s resurgence was evident, especially with standout performances by Marek Sotola and Timothee Carle, the latter delivering crucial blocks and aces that shifted the momentum. The Berlin crowd’s support at the Max-Schmeling-Halle proved invaluable as the team gained a decisive advantage.
“Berlin simply played better today, especially in serving, and we were not precise enough in some situations,” stated coach of the VfB Friedrichshafen Mark Lebedew, emphasizing the need for focus in the upcoming decisive match.
