The Berlin Recycling Volleys have kicked off the Volleyball Bundesliga season with another victory, winning the 1KOMMA5° Ligacup for the sixth consecutive year. Under the guidance of head coach Joel Banks, the team triumphed 3-1 (33-31, 16-25, 25-17, 25-17) against VfB Friedrichshafen in the final, hosted by the Helios Grizzlys Giesen.
Jake Hanes, Berlin’s new opposite, was named MVP of the tournament after delivering a stunning performance, including 12 aces across three matches. Friedrichshafen, despite impressive victories over Düren and Giesen to reach the final, couldn’t overcome Berlin’s energy and consistency.
In the final, Berlin bounced back from losing the second set and dominated the third and fourth, with key contributions from Hanes and captain Ruben Schott. Matt Knigge sealed the victory with the final point, and Berlin now looks ahead to their Bundesliga home opener on September 21st.
