As SCHWERINER SC started out its campaign in the 2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League with an incredible home win against Dinamo KAZAN of Russia, Patricia Thormann was missing. Patricia is pregnant and this joy has turned into her real priority.

Pregnancy is the best thing that could have ever happened to me” she says. Her happiness is shared by teammates, members of the coaching staff, officials and fans there in Schwerin.

One of the most successful players in the history of the Bundesliga, Thormann started playing for SCHWERINER SC in 1991. She first joined the Bundesliga in 1996 and did never leave the club from Schwerin, contributing to eight titles in the national league and to four wins in the national cup. By scoring more points than any other player she was eventually voted MVP of the Bundesliga at the end of the 2010/2011 season.

A modest and friendly person, Patricia is a real team player and likely to turn into a perfect mom. She is very much respected in the Volleyball family not only for her skills but also because she has been struggling with diabetes for a long time, but still able to remain a professional player. She will certainly be missed out there on the court but there is no better way to put an end to a professional career if the reason is the start of a new life.
