Three months ago, legendary Italian player Piccinini decided to retire. The seven-time CEV Champions League winner announced the end of her professional career in a live program. In some interviews that she gave to Italian media, later on, the 40-year-old Piccinini left a small door open for returning to playing volleyball, mostly regretting not winning an Olympic medal.
La Gazzetta dello Sport revealed that, a few days ago, the legendary outside hitter has returned to training! She is doing it at Club Italia Crai (the second division team) in Milan. As the same source reported, Piccinini wants to earn a place in the list of Italy National Team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Recall, that she didn’t play since May when she ended the season with Igor Gorgonzola Novara.

How is that possible for her to return to NT? While her defense and reception is top notch, she can no longer score at international level.
Re: @andrea
Really she was superb in CEV champions League 2019 🙂 YES there are new superstars in ITALY but she still one of the best 🙂 PICCININI is a LEGEND 🙂
I don’t think she might help a lot, considering her age and her skill isn’t good as before.
Good for her and Italian NT! Bosetti is injured, and who knows, she may be out of shape when she come back…and although Piccinini can’t score like she used to, she is very good defender and with Degenaro on reception will make life for Sylla a lot easier 🙂 not to mention her experience we saw in last year CL finals
