“After a few years we are back: we finally can play the best teams in Europe as we participate in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League” said the Chairman of Copra Elior PIACENZA, Guido Molinaroli, as he addressed local and national media on Wednesday evening. “After winning the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup last year, our goal is to achieve the best possible result”.

Molinaroli was joined by all players whose debut in the competition is set for this coming October 23 as they host Slovenia’s ACH Volley LJUBLJANA at PalaBanca in Piacenza. Tickets for the match are being sold at a very special price, 1 € for free seats and 2 € for those that are numbered.

“We are very excited and look forward to the start of this adventure” said head coach Luca Monti. “The group includes many experienced players who have won many trophies in their sporting career and also have played in this competition before. It is very important that we make it through the prelims and get a good draw for the start of the Playoffs. I think that the toughest opponent in our Pool is France’s TOURS VB who is well-known for their excellent defence play.”

“We know that it is not going to be easy especially as we have to play every three days if you take into account the European Cups and the national league” stressed 40-year old Samuele Papi. However, we will try to make the best out of it. Our attitude will be crucial: we shall never underestimate our opponents and assume that we have already cashed the victory even before we start playing”.

Team captain Hristo Zlatanov concluded: “We deserve our spot in this competition and now we have to live up to the expectations and show that we belong to this elite. We shall take it game after game but I know that every member of the team is motivated to make it up to the very end”

Copra Elior PIACENZA won silver in 2008 losing the final game to Russia’s Dinamo-Tattransgaz KAZAN in Lodz and this year was assigned to Pool A together with ACH Volley LJUBLJANA, TOURS VB and Bulgaria’s champions Marek Union-Ivkoni DUPNITSA.
