„I’m certainly satisfied with the outcome because it is not easy to play the opening game on a high level but my players were amazing. We might had a few mistakes more than we should, especially in the attack. We must play better in the final because Modena are champions, the atmosphere from the stands always givem them wings,“ Kovač summed up the game versusu Lube and commented on the new formag of the Super Cup with four teams, „Of course it’s exhausting. Night before the game Zaytsev had muscle contracture so I wasn’t sure on which level he would be able to play. If he couldn’t play it would mean one Italian less on the court or I would have to put Podraščanin to play opposite.“
Serbian expert decribed Perugia’s preparations so far.
„It’s difficult. My players became popular, and they should be, but then except training which we must have, they also have photo shoots, interviews and travels so they have chronic fatigue. Still, they are champions and when it’s important we see that their quality comes up to the surface. I think we will be better, but we need to work a lot. New players need to embrace new way of work. In 20 days as long as we are together we had only 15 trainings, maybe less. But other teams had same situation.“
What is the situation with the injury of Aleksandar Atanasijević?
„He received permission from doctors to train, now he needs to strengthen his left leg so that he can start with jumping. First jumps are in the pool but he didn’t stop with the gym since he underwent surgery, as you can see he has shoulders like bodybuilder (laughs). We will introduce him slowly because his injury is serious. So now, we can even allow ourselves to play without him. Actually, at the moment we are not even aware of how good we are. Firstly, he needs to fit in and then other players need to find connection with him. We also need to see the strength of Zaytsev on reception because I’m sure he can play that position. Then we would have three attackers Zaytsev, Russell and Atanasijević. I think no team has that.“
