From the next season, the substitution paddle will be abolished in SuperLega who will implement tablets instead. The tablets will allow the bench, the referees, and the computer to report the information on the players’ change in real time. In simple words, there will no longer be a visual signalization of which player is leaving the court. The bench will ask for the change by typing the number of the players that go in/out on the tablet. Once authorized by the referees, the information on the substitution is self-registered on the electronic report.

Also, SuperLega will allow jersey numbering from 1 to 99 instead of the traditional 1 to 18. The Italian league took the example of many other sports disciplines that allow players to choose their own numbers.

Finally, SuperLega will introduce the third referee. He will sit next to the video challenge station and evaluate the replay results by communicating via radio to the first and the second referee. The third referee, if necessary, will also perform the role of a backup referee.

In addition, the Italian championship gained the new title sponsor. Credem Banca replaced UnipolSai and the official name of the tournament for the 2018/19 will be Serie A Credem Banca.
