Incheon Korean Air Jumbos has etched a new chapter in the Korean V-League’s history by securing an unprecedented fourth consecutive championship, a feat never before achieved in the league’s annals. This victory, spanning from the 2020-2021 to the 2023-2024 seasons, places Korean Air in a league of its own, surpassing the three-time consecutive championship record it previously shared with Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance (Daejeon Samsung Bluefangs), which had never clinched a four-peat.
The crowning achievement came after a nail-biting 3-2 victory against Ansan OK Financial Group in the final match of the championship series held at Ansan Sangnoksu Gymnasium. The win wrapped up the series with a clean sweep of 3-0, sending Korean Air fans, clad in blue, into a frenzy of celebration.
Under the guidance of Tommy Tilikainen, who took the helm in the 2021-2022 season, Korean Air has enjoyed continuous success, with the Finnish coach attributing the four-peat to a significant and weighty achievement beyond mere game results. The team also benefited from the mid-season addition of Russian player Maxim Zhigalov, whose integration into the team was swift and seamless, showcasing the depth and adaptability of the squad.
