CAC GAMES W: Dominican Republic Claims Sixth Consecutive Title

The Dominican Republic emerged as the victors in a captivating match against Puerto Rico, securing a 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-19, 25-16) at the Sports Palace Carlos El Famoso Hernández in San Salvador, El Salvador. This win marked their sixth consecutive Women’s Volleyball Title at the Central American and Caribbean Games, an achievement that was first ignited in San Salvador in 2002.

In its eighth overall title, the Dominican Republic has now equaled Cuba’s historic record of gold medals at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games. Meanwhile, Puerto Rico secured its sixth silver medal, five of which were a result of losses to the Dominican Republic, with one defeat by Mexico.

The event also saw Cuba overpower Colombia 3-0 (25-22, 28-26, 25-22) to claim the Bronze Medal, marking their second bronze win in the history of the CAC Games.

Exceptional performances were witnessed throughout the tournament, with Dominican middle blocker Jineiry Martinez earning the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP). Martinez was not only awarded MVP but also secured the 1st Best Blocker award during the closing ceremony, following the sixth consecutive Gold Medal win for “Las Reinas del Caribe” at the CAC Games.

Several other Dominican Republic players were awarded for their standout performances. Brayelin Martinez was named 1st Best Spiker, Geraldine Gonzalez took home the 2nd Best Blocker award, Niverka Marte was recognized as the Best Setter, Gaila Gonzalez was chosen as both the Best Opposite and Best Scorer, while Brenda Castillo secured the Best Receiver award.

Silver medalist Elaine Vazquez of Puerto Rico was honored as the 2nd Best Spiker. Meanwhile, Juliana Toro from Colombia received accolades as the Best Libero and Best Digger, and Jocelyn Urías of Mexico was recognized as the Best Server.
