The Dominican Republic triumphed over Mexico with a decisive 3-0 victory (25-22, 25-14, 25-22) in the semifinal of the 2024 NORCECA Pan American Final Six, held at the National Volleyball Pavilion in the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The Caribbean Queens were led by top scorer Lisvel Eve Mejía with 12 points, followed by Bethania De La Cruz with 10 and Alondra Tapia with 9 points. For Mexico, Sofía Maldonado scored 11 points, with Uxue Guereca and Gracie Castro contributing 9 and 7 points, respectively. While Mexico outperformed the Dominican Republic in attacks (32-31), the Dominicans excelled in blocks (8-7) and serves (6-2).
In the other semifinal, the United States overcame Puerto Rico 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 25-16) at the “Ricardo Arias” Pavilion, also in Santo Domingo. The Americans led in attacks (57-53) and blocks (9-6), while both teams tied in serves (6 each). The USA committed more errors (24-20) but still secured the win. Sarah Franklin led the American offense with 15 points, supported by Merritt Beason with 14 and Sophia Fischer with 13. Puerto Rico’s Grace López was the top scorer of the match with 23 points, followed by Diana Reyes with 11 and Paola Santiago with 10.
The Dominican Republic and the United States will now face each other in the final of the Women’s NORCECA Final Six Volleyball tournament.
