As a major volleyball nation that has reigning CEV EuroVolley winners in both competitions, as well as the titleholders in the FIVB World Championship for women, Serbia embarrassed itself by having only one of seven eligible clubs representing the country in European cups (four men’s and three women’s clubs) for the ongoing season, It was Vojvodina NS Seme Novi Sad in the men’s CEV Champions League who finished last in their respective pool, losing all six games.
However, things will be changed in view of the next season. At a meeting with the club representatives of national championships in both competitions, it was announced that all Serbian volleyball clubs participating in European cups next season will have financial support from the Volleyball Federation of Serbia (OSS), which was provided by the country’s government. The meeting was chaired by the OSS President Zoran Gajić and attended by representatives of all 20 participating clubs. Gajić informed the club representatives that the state of Serbia had provided the financial resources and, that from next season, all clubs from Serbia participating in European cups will have all their costs related to the organization of matches at home, as well as travel expenses for away matches, covered.
