Tasnim News Agency reported that the IRIVF President Mohammed Reza Davarzani started negotiations with the prominent Argentinean expert Velasco to take over the country’s men’s national team – actually, to return to the post which he held from 2011 to 2014. During that time, Velasco won the Asian Championship on two occasions, in 2011 and 2013.
After parting ways with Montenegrin Igor Kolaković, the IRIVF is in a pursuit for an experienced foreign coach. Hiring Velasco will likely remain in the domain of theory knowing that the 2005 International Volleyball Hall of Fame inductee has retired a year ago after which he became the Technical Director of the youth national teams of Italy.
Among the names that circulate as the candidates to take over Iran Men are also three Italian experts: Ferdinando De Giorgi, Angelo Lorenzetti, and Roberto Piazza.
