WCHJ M: Kovacevic aids Serbia to Stun USA in straight sets

World No. 2 at Junior and Youth FIVB ranking and tournament's heavy favourite Serbia took over No. USA in straight sets (25-23, 25-23, 25-17) in Pool C match of the FIVB Men's U21 World Championship in Izmir, Turkey on Friday. Serbia started their tournament campaign with a win- loss ratio of 1-0 as this is their first match, while USA dropped to 1-1.

Senior team outside hitter Uros Kovacevic was Serbia’s and match best scorer with 17 points including 2 ace services, while USA’s Benjamin Patch was his team scorer with 16 points including 2 successful blocks and 1 ace.

Serbia team proved their consistency from the start of the match with their setter Aleksa Brdjovic doing the role of the maestro, conducting the attacks using the outside hitter Kovacevic and the opposite Drazen Luburic who also disturbed all USA blocking trials. Serbia won both sets in the same score 25-23 with both sets ending with USA’s servis errors.

Although the first and second sets were tight with USA team controlling their block beside the scoring ability for the team stars Benjamin Patch and Driss Guessous, Serbia controlled the match in the third set making also a lot of pressure through the spike service to win third set widely 25-17 and their first match 3-0.
