Belgium did not mind the noisy support of 5,500 spectators in “Hallenstadion“ and celebrated a victory 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-23) after 1 hour and 23 minutes.
In the first set, a period between the two technical time-outs was crucial, when Belgium from only one-point lead (8-7) moved up to five (16-11). Switzerland came close in the finish to 21-19 but was unable for more.
In the second set, there was only one team on the court, because Belgium, carried by fantastic Lise van Hecke, simply smashed hosts. The result on second technical time-out says more than words 16-4.
Switzerland had a great chance in the third set, and by winning it they would probably brought uncertainty about the final outcome. The hosts led for most of this set, in the finish with what seemed to be unreachable 21-17, but followed by a remarkable run from Belgiums 9-2 with which they noted their second triumph in the competition. Switzerland’s win-loss ratio is 0-2 and they lost all chances to pass to the quarterfinals.
Most efficiant in the winning team was Lise van Hecke with 30 poena, followed by Charlotte Leys with 10. In Swiss team, best were Mandy Wigger with 16 and Ines Granvorka who scored 13.
