The festival, which is geared towards getting the young people of Myanmar involved in grassroots volleyball, aims to teach the basics of the game in a fun environment.
The Cool Volley Festival Myanmar 2014 is part of the national federation’s Youth Development Project, which is based around increasing participation in volleyball in schools, colleges and universities. 15 courts were made available for a Level 1 group consisting of 300 children aged 8 to 10. A further 25 courts were used by 500 children of the Level 2 group aged 12 to 14. The festival also includes a coaching course and demonstration matches involving the men’s and women’s national teams.
The event, which is also supported by the FIVB, was given coverage by MRTV-4 and local press. It has been hailed as a success by participants and the Myanmar Volleyball Federation are expecting to organise similar events in other parts of the country.
