The competition acts as a qualifier for the FIVB World Championship of this age category. The tournament’s winner and runners-up will represent Africa in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U23 World Championship 2015.

Only players born after January 1, 1993 are eligible to participate in the competition. Tunisia and Egypt represented Africa in the first Men’s U23 World Championship in Brazil in 2013. They were the highest ranked African teams at the time.
