A total of 8 teams participated in the tournament starting their campaign via two preliminary groups of four teams each. Bulgaria and Bosnia & Herzegovina finished first and second in Pool A while Turkey and Romania topped the standings of Pool B. Bulgaria advanced to the final after beating Romania at the end of a very close five-setter while Turkey hammered a 3:0 win to cruise past their opponents from Bosnia & Herzegovina.
After losing the first set 16-25, Bulgaria pocketed the next three (25-16, 25-18, and 25-23) in the final match with Turkey to re-claim the Balkan crown after two years.
