“Wilfredo Leon as usually made the difference between two sides in the finals. I remember our match against Zenit Kazan. He played on the outstanding level. In Gdansk, he won the game alone by himself. He attacked, served, made amazing receptions – he did everything on the court. It was the same during this previous weekend. He scored 27 points and made a difference. What I like the most at him – he shines in the most important moments. He’s not afraid to take responsibility in the key moment. Leon is like Michael Jordan” says Anastasi and after being asked about Leon’s desire to play for Poland he answered – “I don’t like the idea to see him in a jersey of Poland. Stephane Antiga would like to have him in the squad but I simply do not like the naturalization and moving from one national team to the other one. The same thing could be said about Juantorena. You are Cuban and you should play for Cuba.”

What a comment. And why you were head coach of Polish NT?
Anastasi is absolutely right!
They should play for their real Country… Cuba!!
He`s right,,, he is Cuban so he should play for Cuba.
If they had a choice, i am sure both would prefer playing for Cuba. But cuban federation made it clear that there is no way back for them which is a true shame.
You can’t blame the players for wanting to play on high level international competitions like WCH or Olympic Games and in the end they won’t care too much, whether they have to become Polish/Italian/Russian/Whatever, in order to achieve this.
Anastasi, go home.
Anastasi, you should work in italy.
Aga 🙂 hahahaha you are damn right! 🙂
In the past many of the Cuban player playing abroad have said several times they need only a phone call from the Cuban federation, but unfortunately the Cuban government is the one behind all that. I believe if they put together a team with the guys playing abroad, that team will be one of the strongest in the Olympics.
