Volleyball matches in Poland will be much shorter in the 2016/17 season.

According to sportowefakty.pl, Polish PlusLiga decided to remove Techical Time-Outs from volleyball matches! It means that there will be no pause at the 8th and 16th point of each set, while the coaches will keep the right to call 2 time-outs and to ask for a challenge.

Those are the same rules that the FIVB tested at the Rio Olympics, and which had a very good reception in the volleyball world. The whole point of these rules is to reduce the overall match-time.

Also, this source reveals that there will once again be a 10-minute break after the second set. This rule was tested couple of years ago, but it was canceled due to protoests of players and coaches. However, as the clubs want to make more money by selling food and beverages in the hall and as the TV stations want to sell more commercials during the match, PlusLiga decided to return the 10-minute break after the 2nd set of each game.

What do you mean ‘much shorter’?? It’s just minus 2 min/set!

-2 min/set and +7 min/match. This means that a 3-set match will be 1 minute longer and a 4 set match will be 1 minute shorter.
