Kurek explained everything what have happened in the previous months, including why he canceled the contract with JT Thunders, why he accepted the offer from PGE Skra Belchatow… Read part of the interview that Kurek gave for dzienniklodzki.pl:
You have decided to terminate the contract of your life…
“Stop, it was not the highest contract in my career and I have never called it the contract of my life. I just signed a deal with a very good club and at that moment I was very happy with my decision. However, many things changed from that moment. I thought about everything very carefully and I think I made the right decision.”
What happened in the meantime?
“The Olympic Games. It was the most difficult moment in my career. I gave everything to achieve some good result in Rio. I thought at first that the time off after the Olympics would bring me some good, but it did not happen. When I started training with JT Thunders I felt that it is not what I expect from myself and that I am not the foreigner the club expects to see in its roster. I must admit that I have never had such conditions as in JT Thunders. Everyone in the club, including the coach, showed a great understanding for my problem and I wish all clubs were treating players like that. At the end, I think that we made the right decision. If I have gone to Japan, I would have been unhappy. And no one would benefit from that. JT Thunders showed class and accepted to terminate the contract.”
Have you ever considered to make a pause in your career?
“Honestly, I thought about it, to skip the entire season, to have some time to regenerate and relax. But, the people who have already had to deal with similar situations advised me to get back to normal life. And for me volleyball is normal life. PGE Skra Belchatow president Konrad Piechocki made an interesting offer of how to get back to volleyball on the fastest possible way. And I am glad I joined the team. For now I am just helping as much as I can, but hopefully I will be able to help even more during the season.”
