“During the finals of the Russian Cup in December last year in Kaliningrad, Dmitry informed Vladimir Alekno that he won’t be able to take part in the training camp for personal reasons. He said he is not ready to explain as he has to choose between national team and family. We told him that we will give him a week to decide,” explains Yaremenko and adds – “The next day Muserskiy called and apologized, Alekno took these words as a desire to play for Russia. However, on 20th December Alekno announced the squad, with his name in the list and Muserskiy called and remembered us on our conversation that we had previously, saying that he can’t take part at the training camp. I mentioned him about the apology towards the head coach, but he said that he apologize for the inconvenience. We have not been told a specific explanation from him. Then it turne out that the Dmitry wife put him in that position – so, he had to celebrate New Year with his family. I guess it was more important than the fight for a ticket to the Olympic Games.”
