ONICO Warszawa defeated newcomers Aluron Virtu Warta Zawiercie in an exciting Round 25 game by a 3-2 (25-14, 23-25, 28-30, 25-23, 15-8).
Since the situation in the top six in the Plus Liga standings (playoff spots) is very tense, Warszawa could not afford themselves to lose the second straight game.
The team from the Polish capital took advantage of a 16-day break between their previous and today’s game to regenerate itself. The two of three players that were sidelined due to injuries for a long period of time have returned to Warszawa roster: Bartosz Kwolek and Jan Nowakowski. Furthermore, the latter earned the MVP of the match award as he scored 16 points (4 kill blocks). The Macedonian Nikola Gjorgiev topped the winning side with 21 points. The Frenchman Antoine Brizard added 4 kill blocks as well. The Canadian Sharone Vernon-Evans is still on the list of injured players in Warszawa, just like Damian Wojtaszek.
In Aluron Virtu, Grzegorz Bociek scored 29 points (3 aces, 1 kill block).
