According to this agent, who is very familiar with the situation in Russian men’s league, liberos get the lowest amounts of money in Russia.

“The salary depends on the role and player’s status in the team. The receivers get between 15 and 25 million rubles per year (225,000 Eur – 375,000 Eur), the middle blockers 10 – 20 million rubles (150,000 Eur – 300,000), the opposites 20-30 million (300,000 – 450,000 Eur), the setters receive 10-30 million rubles (150,000 – 450,000), while the liberos have between 5 to 10 million rubles (75,000 – 150,000). This the level of salaries of the players that wear Russian national team jerseys. However, there are a lot of young players in the team and they receive less right now in their clubs. There is a huge difference between the top teams in Russia and those that are not in this category,” says Kastornov.

Who is setting the rules about salaries  – agents or clubs?

“When we are talking about top players – it’s all up to clubs. When we talk about other players, you need to negotiate,” explains Kastornov.

The conclusion is that Zenit have the highest paid volleyball players…
