Dominican Women’s volleyball star Gina Mambrú is spending her first month in Indonesia, where she competes with the club Jakarta PGN Popsivo.

Playing in Jakarta is not the first Asian experience for a 31-year-old receiver but, as she revealed in an interview for „El Caribe“, Indonesia is quite different than China and Japan where she used to play.

The team she performs in is sponsored by the local police…

“The head of the local police was the one that gave me the jersey”, Mambrú said with a broad smile.

“Also here are places where people eat with the hands and I mean restaurants. There are no dishes, so people use their hands. That’s funny. Another thing, they eat the whole chicken. Literally, the whole,” Dominican player said.

Most of the population in Jakarta, and also in Indonesia, is Muslim. Mambrú has felt the effects of a religion that sets certain limits on the way of dressing.

“I have not been able to bathe in a swimming pool because two-piece bathing suits are not allowed here. To do it, you have to wear one-piece suit like divers wear, with a couple of sleeves,” she added.
