Cuba will compete in the Qualifier for the Tokyo Olympics in Saint Petersburg, Russia, without Robertlandy Simón, Michael Sánchez and Raydel Hierrezuelo, Chempionat reported.
These 3 players successfully completed negotiations with the Cuban Volleyball Federation (FCV) on returning to the national team after many years of absence and were re-registered as players eligible to compete for Cuba. But, it was decided that Simón, Sánchez and Hierrezuelo will make their debuts in the North American qualifying tournament for the Olympics, which will be held on January 2020, in case Cuba fail to do so via upcoming International Qualifiers.
Cuba will face the hosts Russia, Iran and Mexico in the Saint Petersburg tournament (August 9-11) whose winners will be promoted to the Olympics in Tokyo.
