The Belarusian champions, Shakhtior Soligorsk, announced a new reinforcement for their squad with the signing of Cuban middle blocker David Fiel. Fiel, 29, has signed a one-year contract with Shakhtior and will be part of the team in the 2023/2024 season when they play in the Russian championship.
Fiel began his sports career in his homeland with Capitalinos and La Habana. He first ventured overseas in the 2016/17 season, playing for Al-Jaish SC in Qatar. His career further took him to Poland where he played for Dafi Spolem Kilece (2017/18) and PGE Skra Belchatow (2018–2020).
Cuban middle blocker also has experience in the French league, having played for Tourcoing Lille Métropole (2019/20) and returning to France for stints with Paris Volley (2021/22) and Cambrai Volley (2022/23). His career also included a season with German powerhouse VfB Friedrichshafen (2020/21).
