The only player to receive the MVP honor at a World Championship on both the national team and club levels is Giannelli.

If the Italian setter’s 2022 season wasn’t already noteworthy, it undoubtedly became more so on Sunday in Betim, Brazil, when he led Sir Safety Susa Perugia to their first-ever FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship title, which came in the Italian club’s debut appearance, and earned the competition’s Most Valuable Player accolades. The 26-year-old Giannelli, who led his nation’s team to victory at the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship and was chosen as the tournament’s best player, was in a comparable situation just three months prior. He’s the only player to have won MVP honors in both competitions.

The 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship Dream Team:

Best Setter: Simone Giannelli (Sir Safety Susa Perugia),

Best Opposite: Matey Kaziyski (Trentino Itas),

Best Outside Hitters: Alessandro Michieletto (Trentino Itas) and Wilfredo León (Sir Safety Susa Perugia),

Best Middle Blockers: Marko Podraščanin (Trentino Itas) and Flávio Gualberto (Sir Safety Susa Perugia),

Best Libero: Lucas de Deus ‘Lukinha’ (Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei),

MVP: Simone Giannelli (Sir Safety Susa Perugia).
