Germany shocked Brazil in Lincoln, Nebraska (USA) in Pool 10 of the 2019 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League by beating them in five sets, partially 21-25, 31-29, 21-25, 25-20 and 15-13.

Germany came back twice in the Week 3 match against the fourth-ranked side in the FIVB Ranking Brazil to score only their second win in the 2019 Nations League (2-5 record). Brazil missed their opportunity to wrap the second set after gaining a match point at 29-28, which would give them a 2-0 in the match. Germany made a 3-0 run to tie the sets at 1-1. After only watching the first two weeks of the tournament due to the treatment of a chronic problem in the right knee, Brazil’s standout outside hitter Natália Zilio made her debut in the 2019 Nations League, playing the first two sets (12 points). She replaced Gabriela Guimarães “Gabi“ as Brazil captain.

Germany opposite hitter Louisa Lippmann was a true highlight of the match as she poured in 29 points. Ana Paula Borgo got 21 points for the “Seleção“ whose players did not serve a single ace in the encounter! This happens almost never to Brazil who suffered their third defeat in the tournament (4-3) which is how much losses they got through the entire Preliminary Round in 2018.

After a slow start in the match (7 unforced errors in the first set), the United States surpassed South Korea by a 3-1 in front of own crowd to continue their winning streak against the Asian rivals. The USA have won their 12th straight encounter against South Korea, counting major world-level tournaments. The Americans are now one of the three teams with a 6-1 record and 18 points in the Preliminary Round, claiming the second spot in the overall standings just behind Turkey who have a better set ratio. South Korea suffered the third loss in a row and are at 1-6.

Chiaka Ogbogu top-scored for the USA with 16 points. Kim Hee-Jin notched 14 for South Korea.

Chronic right knee problem for Natália Zilio is not good news for a long season ahead with Ecz.

Re: @Cjango
ecz management is accustomed to such droubles…this club is the richest but at the same time the foolest in the world 😀

Re: @aerler One mistake that I think was fatal was not utilizing Rachael Adams more in their matches against Vakifbank. I know it is very hard to slow down Zhu Ting but Adams is one of the best blockers and middle hitters. But that was two seasons ago. I think they should replace the coach.

Re: @Cjango

Instead of who? They have Boskovic + Larson + KIm, before that it was Boskovic + Larson + Ognjenovic, not much room for a foreign middle blocker in the national championship. And the coach from 2 seasons ago was replaced (to no avail though).

Motta is not very smart ; he doesn’t believe in Ismailoglu who have played last summer with national team a fantastic vnl and play again this summer beautiful games . He also lets go Ognjenovic who can play eyes shut with Boskovic …….
