The top-seed Shanghai swept No.4 Sichuan at home by a 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-19) in Game 1 of the best-of-five playoff semifinals. The Frenchman Julien Lyneel topped titleholders with 13 points. Liu Xiangdong scored 19 points for Sichuan for which Cuban Leonardo Leyva played only the first set.

No.2 Beijing had a bit more difficult job against third-seed Bayi, 3-1 (25-16, 25-20, 17-25, 25-15). Jiang Chuan delivered 16 points for the winning side. Gu Jiafeng set up a bulletproof wall on the net – 8 kill blocks! In Bayi, not a single player made double digits on his account when it comes to the points scored. Du Haoyu recorded 4 kill blocks.

Game 2 is scheduled for March 15.
