The match was an opportunity for Egypt coach Ibrahim Fakhr Eddine to try as many players as possible, giving each one time to demonstrate skill and fitness levels ahead of the final squad selection for the World Championship from August 30 to September 21.

The encounter was the third match in Egypt’s preparation programme for the World Championship, after defeating rivals Tunisia twice 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-15) and 3-1 (26-24, 25-15, 20-25, 27-25) in their camp in the Tunisian capital.
