Palaflorio – which is named after the late Pietro Florio, a former president of the Italian Volleyball Federation (FIPAV) – is now dressed up with banners and huge boards advertising the World Championship.
The FIVB’s premier competition for women’s national teams is coming to town for the first time and there is a great deal of excitement in Bari ahead of the event, with the Italian team also featuring in the second round lineup. Palaflorio, which has a capacity of 4,500 seats, will first host the national teams of Azerbaijan, Belgium, China, Cuba, Japan and Puerto Rico for the first round of the Women’s World Championship, from September 23-28.
