WCH W: Serbia too strong for Netherlands

In the first match of the second phase of the FIVB World Championship 2014 in Verona, the Serbian girls won new three points. They have defeated the Netherlands in straight sets.

From the beginning The Netherlands had the lead, in one moment of four points. Gido Vermeulen called the coach’s time out when Serbia came close to 20-21. Tijana Bošković and Milena Rašić made block for 21-21. At 22-22 Terzić asked for Video Challenge and he was right, Serbia got the lead 23-22. Nikolić brought set point 24-22 and Serbia immediately won 25-22.

Dutch girls opened the second set with 2-0 but very motivated Serbia made five points in row for 5-2. Although Serbia led few points , on the second technical time out The Netherlands went with 16-15. After very good play, something happened with the Serbian team; they started with mistakes while on the other side Dutch players were very patient, Plak was too strong (18-22). With strong attacks of Nikolić and Bošković Serbia made six points in row for 24-22. They used the second set points for 25-23 (block Rašić).

In the third set Serbia has allowed to the opponents to take a lead until the second part of set. The first important equalization was at 17-17 when coach Terzić changed the diagonal (Brakočević and Živković in, Bošković and Ognjenović out) but only until 21-21. With good service by Ognjenović and block byRašić, Serbia came to the match point 24-21. But they used the third one over Bošković for 25-23.
