The Brazil Men’s Volleyball National Team member, Lucas Saatkamp “Lucão“, is suspended by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) for four games for making an obscene gesture last September.
The Rio Olympic Games winner Lucão got a punishment from the FIVB. The middle blocker of the Brazil National Team was suspended for four games for making an obscene gesture on the podium at the last World Championship. The situation was caught on the official broadcast of the competition at the time the “Seleção“ received the bronze medal. In addition to the suspension, the player will have to pay a fine of around 30,000 Brazilian reals (close to 6,000 USD). The suspension imposed by the FIVB will not affect matches played by Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei, the player’s club. Lucão will serve the punishment in the first phase of the 2023 Volleyball Nations League.
This is the second time that the experienced middle blocker has been suspended for making such a gesture. The same has already happened in 2019. On his social media accounts, Lucão had already expressed his opinion about the gesture. He said it was an “internal joke“ and apologized to the fans for doing so.
