In the rematch of the Rio de Janeiro State Championship (Campeonato Carioca) finals, the team coached by the legendary Bernardo Rezende ‘Bernardinho’ defeated the home side Fluminense F.C. by a 3-1 (25-17, 25-21, 24-26, 25-22) and regained the title which they lost in 2016 exactly to the rivals in this year’s finals. Sesc won the first match by a 3-1 as well.

Drussyla Costa and Gabriela Guimarães ‘Gabi’ led Sesc to win the Carioca trophy for the 13th time in the club history. This final will be also remembered by the fact that two most famous volleyball siblings in Brazil at the moment played on opposite sides – Monique Pavão for the winners and Michelle Pavão for Fluminense.
