After having to sweat a lot to outplay Corinthians-Guarulhos in the 2017/18 Superliga opener, Cruzeiro had to work even harder to beat the other newcomers in the league, Sesc-RJ, even though they made nearly twice as many aces and kill blocks. After all, the result in the second and the third set have perfectly shown what kind of a fight was held in the game, 3-2 (25-13, 29-31, 32-34, 25-18, 15-10). The Cuban Yoandy Leal scored 24 for Cruzeiro while João Rafael Ferreira noted 26 for Sesc.

EMS Taubaté Funvic redeemed for losing the first round match against Sesc and defeated Copel/Telecom/Maringá in straight sets at home, partially 25-20, 25-18, 25-17, playing without starting middle blocker Otávio Pinto. Ricardo Lucarelli contributed to Taubaté’s win with 13 points. Alisson Bastos scored 12 points for Maringá.

Sesi-SP (16 points from Alan Souza) and Lebes/Canoas (13 points from Leandro Silva ‘Leandrão’) joined Cruzeiro at the top of the rankings with 2-0 as they beat Ponta Grossa Caramuru and Vôlei Renata/Campinas, respectively, in Round 2.
