EUROVOLLEY 2021 M: Defending champs defeat Belgium, Portugal steal one set from Poland

The defending champions Serbia have opened the CEV European Championship 2021 with a 3-1 win over Belgium 3-1 (25-13, 25-18, 21-25, 25-20).

Serbia had everything under control after taking the first two sets, but in the third set, we saw an answer from the Belgian boys. However, in the fourth set Kovac’s side raised the level of play and defeated the rival in four.

Uros Kovacevic has opened the EuroVolley with a stunning performance, scoring 27 points. Marko Ivovic contributed had 13 points and Aleksandar Atanasijevic 11 points. On the other side, Sam Deroo scored 15 points.

Poland also had a good start of the European Championship by winning the first set in a very convincing way 25-16. In the second one, the Portuguese side managed somehow to surprise the Polish team and to tie the game 25-22.

Since Poland saw a very good side of Portugal, they decided to take the game much more seriously in the next two sets to take the win 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-16, 25-19).

Bartosz Kurek was the top scorer with 18 points, while Wilfredo Leon and Jakub Kochanowski contributed with 14 points each. Kubiak ended the game with 12 points. In Portugal, the experienced Alexandre Ferreira scored 15 points.

The Dutch team have also scored a victory 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-22) however, it was a very difficult and tight match for both sides. Luckily for the fans of the Netherlands, they won it in straight sets.

Nimir Abdel Aziz was the best scorer with 19 points while Jesus Andres Villena scored 16 points.
